Mc-1 – Low-Sided Goods Wagon

The Mc-1 was a four-wheeled, low-sided freight wagon operated  during the steam and early diesel eras. It belonged to the Mc class, a large group of general-purpose wagons designed for everyday freight work.

The Mc class represented one of NZR’s most common and versatile wagon types. These wagons were built to handle general merchandise and bulk goods that did not require enclosure, such as timber, coal, agricultural produce, machinery, and construction materials. The “low side” design made loading and unloading easier, especially when using cranes, forklifts, or manual labour.
